Privacy Policy

Who we are

ECU Rescue is responsible for the personal information used to operate our automotive-electronics postal repair service. Contact help@ecurescue.co.uk or write to ECU Rescue, 16 Roland Simpson Close, Snaith, East Yorkshire, DN14 9RN.

Information and purposes

We use your contact details, billing and return addresses, order and payment references, correspondence, module details and repair history to answer enquiries, fulfil repair bookings, return modules and provide warranty support. We receive information directly from you and payment or delivery updates from the providers involved in your booking. Please do not email passwords or full card details.

Our legal basis is taking steps you request before a contract and performing that contract. We retain necessary accounting and tax records to meet legal obligations. We rely on legitimate interests for proportionate security, fraud prevention, general enquiry handling and legal claims, taking account of your rights. Where consent is needed for an optional use, it is separate from ordering a repair.

Contact and delivery information is needed to fulfil a booking; without it we may be unable to provide the service. An account is optional where guest checkout is offered.

Who receives information

Relevant information is handled by website hosting and technical service providers, communications/email and backup services; payment processors, including Stripe for payments offered at checkout; postal or courier services; and advisers or authorities where necessary. Payment providers handle payment details under their own privacy notices and may carry out fraud or eligibility checks. Our records include payment references and status, rather than a copy of your full card details. WooCommerce supplies the store software; it is not itself the payment method.

Cookies and communications

The store uses cookies and technical records for the basket, checkout, account login and security. Browser and request information may be logged to investigate errors or misuse. We do not use additional analytics, newsletters, marketing or email tracking services. Optional WooCommerce order attribution, usage tracking and remote diagnostic logging are disabled. We send communications needed to answer your enquiry, fulfil your order and provide repair or warranty support.

How long we keep information

We keep order and accounting information for applicable legal obligations and associated claims. Repair records remain for as long as needed for the relevant warranty and disputes. Enquiries are retained while needed to resolve the enquiry or a related issue. Account information remains while the account is needed; closing it does not remove records we must retain for other purposes. Security logs are kept while needed to investigate incidents and protect the service. Backup copies are retained for recovery and continuity needs, rather than used as active customer records.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you can request access, correction, erasure, restriction or a portable copy of your information, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. You can withdraw consent without affecting processing already carried out lawfully. Legal obligations and other rights may limit a request. Contact us using the details above; we may need proportionate proof of identity.

You may complain directly to the Information Commissioner’s Office. You do not have to contact us first. We will update this notice when our practices change.
